An afternoon recital of music for tenors given by father and son duo, Malcolm and Jonathan Stork, with accompanist Gordon Collins.
Jonathan Stork sang, as a boy, with the well-known local choir of Holy Trinity, Cookham. Upon his voice breaking he followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather and thereafter could be found on the back stalls as one of the Stork Triumvirate of Tenors. He attended Sir William Borlase school, and, during that time, sang with Berkshire Youth Choir, winning with them the Sainsbury’s Choir of the Year competition in 1996. Whilst at the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Law School, Jonathan became a founder member of the Choral Scholarship scheme at St Mary’s Church in the Lacemarket, and still sings regularly with the same choir. He also sings and records with numerous vocal ensembles, including The Colmore Consort, The Sheryffe’s Men, The Nottingham Bach Soloists, Ensemble Vox, and The Lincs Effect, as well as singing frequently with the choir of Lincoln Minster. Recent solo engagements include, Monteverdi’s Verspers of 1610, Bach’s Magnificat and Passions, Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem and Mass in C Minor, Haydn’s Nelson Mass, Mass in Time of War and The Creation, Biber’s Missa Salisburgensis, Stainer's Crucifixion, Britten's St Nicholas Cantata, Finzi’s work for tenor and orchestra, Dies Natalis, Schumann’s Dichterliebe, and Vaughan Williams’ On Wenlock Edge.
Malcolm also sung as boy and man with the local church choir of Holy Trinity, celebrating his 50th singing year in 2008. Malcolm was a choral scholar at Clare College Cambridge between 1967 and 1970 and whilst there sang in the original John Rutter Christmas carol recordings. Over the years Malcolm has had the opportunity to “have a go” at most types of music for tenors from opera to operetta and Bach to barbershop. In recent years Malcolm has sung as a member of Cantorum - Cookham’s Chamber Choir and, when allowed, with Marianne, his wife.
This is the first time that Malcolm and Jonathan have attempted to work together in harmony – enjoy!
